Lizzo Brings Music, Magic, and Literacy to College Park Elementary School

On Thursday, October 22, 2026, four-time Grammy and Emmy Award-winning artist Lizzo visited College Park Elementary School (also known as New College Park Elementary School) in College Park, Georgia, for a special literacy event that combined storytelling, live music, and messages of empowerment.

The visit, hosted by the Atlanta-based nonprofit Page Turners Make Great Learners (founded by Fifi Handy), centered on Lizzo’s debut children’s picture book, Lil Lizzo Meets Sasha B. Flootin’.

Published by Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers on September 8, 2026, and illustrated by Mark Pett, the 40-page story follows a young girl named Lil Lizzo who teams up with a sassy, talking flute named Sasha B. Flootin’ (inspired by Lizzo’s real-life flute, Sasha).

The pair embark on whimsical adventures through a jungle, the ocean, and outer space, learning lessons about friendship, self-discovery, creativity, and the importance of finding one’s own voice. The book includes a QR code linking to an exclusive original flute song performed by Lizzo.

During the school visit, Lizzo read from the book to students, shared the inspiration behind the story (drawing from her own journey with the flute, music, and finding belonging), and performed on her flute.

School officials and staff described the atmosphere as joyful and inspiring, with Lizzo emphasizing confidence, individuality, and the idea that dreams have no limits regardless of background or obstacles. Every student in grades K–3 received a hardcover copy of the book, making the day especially memorable for the young readers.

College Park Mayor Bianca Motley Broom attended as a sponsor in support of her Mayor’s Reading Club, part of broader efforts to promote childhood literacy in the community. School and district accounts from Fulton County Schools highlighted the event as a powerful reminder that students’ voices, gifts, and dreams matter.

The appearance formed part of Lizzo’s book tour supporting Lil Lizzo Meets Sasha B. Flootin’. The same day, she was also scheduled for a meet-and-greet and book signing at Little Shop of Stories in nearby Decatur.

Lizzo, known for hits such as “Truth Hurts,” “About Damn Time,” and “Good as Hell,” as well as her classical flute training and advocacy around body positivity and self-love, has increasingly used her platform to engage directly with young audiences through education and the arts. Educators and organizers noted that combining music with storytelling created an unforgettable experience that reinforced the value of reading, creativity, and self-expression.

Local coverage from outlets including FOX 5 Atlanta and CBS Atlanta captured moments of Lizzo reading and playing the flute amid an enthusiastic student audience, underscoring the event’s success in blending celebrity star power with genuine community impact.
