Delta Air Lines says its workforce will slim down significantly amid the coronavirus pandemic

No industry has been as impacted by the pandemic as has the travel industry and Delta, the top U.S. airline is not immune.

Delta Announces Voluntary Separations For Employees Amid COVID-19

The Atlanta-based company said in a memo obtained by CNN that a”smaller Delta unfortunately means fewer people will be required.”

Delta told it workers that it will proceed with two voluntary exit programs for its more than 90,000 employees.

Meanwhile, Delta is adding some flights in June as customer demand has lifted slightly.

“While the June schedule is significantly reduced in comparison to last year, customers will see the return of several major routes, both U.S. domestic and international, which were previously suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” Delta said in a blog post.

Should You Book Travel Amid The Coronavirus Pandemic?

    Tee Johnson craigsotherlistyahoo-com May 8, 2020
    3 Min Read

If you’re a travel head like many people, you are very eager to test the waters and book a flight right now. The problem is that there’s this coronavirus pandemic that has totally stopped travel.

But one thing it slowed down considerably (but not stopped) is air travel. There are some great airfares on sale and you may be wondering if you should book.

Here are some things you may want to consider before spending money on air travel.

    • Cheap Airfare
    • Health Protocols
    • Flight Destinations

    Cheap Airfare

Yes, you’re going to be able to find cheap airfare during this pandemic, no question about it. The reason is because many airlines are hemorrhaging money.

That’s why you’ll see fares like Atlanta to Los Angeles for less than $200. As state manage the ebb and flow of COVID-19 outbreaks, you’ll see prices go up and down.

As to whether you should buy cheap fares right now, it’s totally up to you. If you’re comfortable with flying in and out of airports to destinations inside and out of the United States, it’s a person decision.

    New Health Protocols

The airline industry is also overhauling the way it approaches sanitation amid this health crisis. That means you can expect a totally difference experience toward hygiene and bathroom cleaning procedures.

Many airlines are using electrostatic anti-microbial spray treatments and disinfectants, cleaning the planes between flights to make sure customers feel safe.

Another thing they’re doing is limiting the number of passengers onboard, and changing the boarding process to promote personal space.

    Flight Destinations

You’ll also need to consider where you’re flying to more carefully. If you plan to visit a city or country that is a known coronavirus hotspot, you may want to think twice or alter your itinerary.

It’s true that some airlines have resumed flights to Europe, despite a travel ban, but that doesn’t mean you have to book.

Also, quarantine measures differ around the world. It’s very possible you may land and — based on someone on your flight — be forced to spend the first 14 days of your trip in self-isolation.

    Bottom Line

The bottom line is that you have the personal freedom to decide how you want to live your life. Of course, you’ll want to take into consideration your health and the welfare of others.

The best airfares and vacations in the world aren’t worth your ability to enjoy them.

If that means that you choose not to fly — or you alter your travel plans dramatically — certainly for the public good you may decide to do that.

Once you get your passport, you should be ready for your trip. Make sure you have found the cheapest flights from Atlanta that are on sale.

To Atlanta is one of the most convenient places to travel to and from. A large part of that is because Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport is so accessible.

COVID-19 Pandemic: Delta Extends Free Flight Changes To End Of Year

Delta Air Lines and other airlines are further adjusting their change policies due to the disruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Delta Extends Free Flight Changes To End Of Year

“We’re extending any Delta ticket for travel in March or April that is set to expire before June 30, 2020, to permit travel until December 31, 2020,” Delta says on its website.

“You can rebook and fly with these tickets until the end of this year.”

The airlines are trying to cope with travel plans that have been in disarray as the nation and much of the world adjusts to the new normal due to COVID-19.

Delta says that before you travel, passengers should check with the airport of origin and destination to make sure they know the local safety and security protocols amid the coronavirus pandemic.

    Coronavirus Pandemic: Airline Change Fees

The airlines are trying to cope with travel plans that have been in disarray as the nation and much of the world adjusts to the new normal due to COVID-19.

Here are the change fee policies for each airline:

    Delta Air Lines

Delta is broadly waiving change fees for travel affected by COVID-19/coronavirus. That means all travel departing in March or April 2020, as well as all tickets purchased in March 2020. See Delta’s change fee policy here.

    American Airlines

    • Booked your trip March 1 – March 31, 2020, for travel through January 30, 2021, you can also change your reservation at a later date without change fees.

    United Airlines

United says it will continue to fly its regular schedule from Europe to the U.S. through March 20, except Houston-London and Denver-London, which they’re suspending after March 16.

From March 20 through the end of April, United expects to fly three daily flights to London and have daily service to Amsterdam, Brussels, Dublin, Paris and Zurich

See United Airline’s change fee policy here.

    Southwest Airlines

As you may know, Southwest already has a no-fee policy in place for all its fares.

If you would like to rebook, you may change your travel up to 60 days from your original flight date by visiting Southwest.com/rebook.

Travel Ban: Everything You Need To Know

    Tee Johnson craigsotherlistyahoo-com March 15, 2020

With the European travel ban due to the coronavirus pandemic in effect, many wonder if a domestic travel ban is next at Hartsfield-Jackson as well as other international airports.

The travel ban from parts of Europe went into effect Friday, March 13 as U.S. officials try to contain the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

What Is The Travel Ban From Europe?

The European travel restrictions mean that Europeans are banned from flying to the United States for 30 days.

All U.S. travelers who have come back are being screened for coronavirus upon arrival at 13 U.S. airports.

What Are The 13 Airports Screening For Coronavirus?

    1. Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) Massachusetts
    2. Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD), Illinois
    3. Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), Texas
    4. Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL), Hawaii
    5. Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW), Michigan
    6. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), Georgia
    7. John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), New York
    8. Los Angeles International Airport, (LAX), California
    9. Miami International Airport (MIA), Florida
    10. Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), New Jersey
    11. San Francisco International Airport (SFO), California
    12. Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA), Washington
    13. Washington-Dulles International Airport (IAD), Virginia

Is A Domestic Travel Ban Likely?

Meanwhile the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Dr. Anthony Fauci, says domestic travel restrictions are unlikely in “the immediate future.”

Fauci, speaking to ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday, says domestic travel restrictions “have not been seriously discussed.”

“I don’t see that right now in the immediate future but remember, we are very open-minded about whatever it takes to preserve the health of the American public,” Dr. Fauci tells @jonkarl when asked if the U.S. could impose domestic travel restrictions. https://t.co/b3vhObQa4c pic.twitter.com/4lcY79Lg0m

Also, the Trump Administration added the Britain and Ireland to the European travel ban as COVID-19 intensified in those nations.

Delta Cuts Capacity Due To Coronavirus Pandemic

    Tee Johnson craigsotherlistyahoo-com March 13, 2020
    2 Min Read

Delta Air Lines announced Friday that it is cutting its capacity by 70% as travel demand plunges to unseen levels due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Atlanta-based company said that it is experiencing “unprecedented revenue impact.”

The airline industry has been hit the hardest by the coronavirus pandemics, especially after the U.S. instituted a travel ban from most of Europe.

Coronavirus Pandemic Causes Delta To Cut Capacity

Cancellations are rising dramatically with net bookings now negative for travel over the next four weeks. To put that in perspective, we’re currently seeing more cancellations than new bookings over the next month,” the company said in a news release.

Other measures Delta is implementing include the following:

    • Suspending flights to continental Europe, except for London
    • Instituting a hiring freeze and offering voluntary short-term, unpaid leaves immediately
    • Parking up to 300 aircraft

Along with other major airlines, Delta is currently waiving change fees for all flights booked between March 1-31.

The no-fee flight changes also apply to international flights previously booked and scheduled to fly in March.

Delta: Our Most Tasty Snack Is Here To Stay

Delta Air Lines recently reassured travelers that its most consistent delicacy — Biscoff cookies — aren’t going anywhere.

“Yep, still got ’em,” the airline recently posted on Twitter.

The tweet was in response to United Airlines, which announced that it was removing Biscoff cookies for a while and replacing them with Oreo thin mints.

The reaction was swift from United’s fans though, with many travelers saying that NO ONE wants Oreo thin mints over Biscoffs.

United said it will bring Biscoff cookies back in the spring though. Responding to the tweetstorm, United tweeted:
“Internet, we won’t go baking your heart. We have an ongoing rotation of snacks… so here’s how the cookie crumbles for this round:
    • OREO Thins = on board March 1
    • Biscoff = comes back May 1
    • Stroopwafel = here always

    Airlines That Serve Biscoff Cookies

As it stands, the number of airlines that serve Biscoff cookies are down to a handful. Including United’s seasoning offerings, they are:
    • American Airlines
    • Alaska Airlines
    • American Airlines
    • Delta Air LInes
    • WestJet
Biscoff cookies are gluten-free ginger spice treats made from cookie butter. The main ingredient is comprised of speculoos cookie crumbs, fat, flour, and sugar.

Many a baker has tried to make Biscoff cookies, but one of the simplest recipes is HERE.

How To Fly To Japan For Free This Summer

Japan Airlines is inviting 50,000 people to fly for free to the island nation. The deal is only for visitors to Japan in summer 2020.

The offer is part of a marketing campaign to get people to visit less-frequented cities. If you want to explore Japan, now’s your time. The Travel period is from this specific time period only: July 1, 2020 to September 30.

Here’s How To Travel To Japan For Free

Japan is offering up to 100,000 seats on Japan Airlines domestic routes. Here are the details you need to know:

    • This campaign provides “round-trip air tickets”, so the number of available passengers is “maximum 50,000”.
    • There are a limited number of available seats, so in some cases no destinations will be shown.

To take advantage of the offer, you have to do three things:

    1. Click on the Application Screen: Trip with JAL application screen and choose a departure location, day, number of people and time slot
    2. Choose Among Four Destinations: Enter passenger information and apply
    3. Get Your Destination Confirmed: You’ll get an email within 3 days of applying telling you your destination

Visit this link to get the deal.

Since air traffic drops off significantly late at night, early morning offers most airlines and airports a clean slate from which to launch a new day of on-time departures. And while these best intentions often don’t make it to lunchtime, booking an early-morning flight can mean avoiding the worst delays of the day.

Once you get your passport, you should be ready for your trip. Make sure you have found the cheapest flights from Atlanta that are on sale.
