French fashion designer Pierre Cardin is the subject of a fashion exhibition put on by Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). It opens this week and will run until Sept. 30.
The retrospective SCAD FASH Museum of Fashion + Film exhibition focuses on Cardin and his futuristic designs.
SCAD FASH Focuses On Pierre Cardin’s Futurism
Describing his principal philosophy, Cardin explained, “The clothes I prefer are the garments I invent for a lifestyle that does not yet exist — the world of tomorrow.” The exhibition celebrates Cardin’s spirit and vision, both unwaveringly inspired by the future.
“Pierre Cardin has always been a futurist, and innovative thinking has served as the cornerstone of his immense career success. What better way to celebrate his legacy as a pioneer of design and business practice-in fashion, global commerce, art, architecture, advertising, entertainment-than a newly curated exhibition of his work at SCAD, the world’s preeminent university for creative professions?” said SCAD president and founder Paula Wallace in a written statement.
Wallace added: “Come to SCAD FASH to see what Pierre saw. Come celebrate the man, the creator, the legend. Come step into the future he saw for us all.”
The exhibition is open to the public with the cost of museum admission. Admission is free for all museum members, as well as SCAD students, faculty and staff with a valid SCAD Card. For more information on the exhibition, visit scadfash.org.

Nothing quite ushers in the spring and summer in Atlanta like an evening under the lights at Chastain Park. This week, the musical lineup for the 2018 Delta Series A was released — and it’s a good one.
Starting in June, Chastain Park Amphitheatre will be rocking and rolling with acts from the past and present. Some of the bigger names include John Fogerty& ZZ Top, Robert Plant & the Sensational Space Shifters, Brandi Carlile, Harry Connick Jr, 3 Doors Down & Collective Soul, Barenaked Ladies, Belinda Carlisle, The Indigo Girls, Boy George & Culture Club & The B-52’s and Trombone Shorty.
The venue, one of the city’s favorites, has undergone some renovations of late, so things may look a little different. But fans can expect the same great experience at Chastain. In addition to a larger plaza, there will be box seats and more concessions and restroom access.
In addition to the new box seats, upgraded concessions and restrooms and expanded plaza area, there are also a couple of new policies at Chastain: Coolers must be 23” wide and 16” deep and must be kept under seats to keep the aisles clear. Only one cooler per table will be permitted and glass of any kind will not be allowed into the amphitheater.
Here’s the lineup for 2018:
- June 6. John Fogerty and ZZ Top Blues and Bayous Tour
- June 8. Robert Plant & The Sensational Space Shifters
- June 9. Harry Connick, Jr.
- June 24. Brandi Carlile
- July 6. 3 Doors Down/Collective Soul
- July 7. Barenaked Ladies
- July 11. Retro Futura (Belinda Carlisle, ABC, Modern English, Nick Heyward, Kajagoogoo’s Limahl, Bow Wow Wow’s Annabella)
- July 19. Indigo Girls
- July 22. Culture Club, The B-52s, Thompson Twins’ Tom Bailey
- Aug. 19. Trombone Shorty’s Voodoo Threauxdown (with Galactic, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, New Breed Brass Band with special guests Cyril Neville and Walter “Wolfman” Washington)
Go to www.chastainseries.com to see your series and mini-series packages. Tickets go on sale this Friday, March 23 at 10 a.m. and can be ordered via the website or by calling 404-233-2227.
