• Atlanta’s Top Dog? The Labrador Retriever

    1 Min Read

It’s a dog eat dog world out there, but in Atlanta, it’s a Lab’s world, as in Labrador Retriever! The breed once again took Atlanta’s top woof in the American Kennel Club’s (AKC) 2017 ranking of the most popular dog breeds in the country.

The Lab came in No. 1 in Buffalo and Nashville, underscoring just how popular the pups are. Rounding out the top five in Atlanta were bulldogs (of course).

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel was knocked out of the city’s top five, but joined the Yorkshire Terriers, Boxers and Rottweilers in the top 10.

“The Labrador Retriever held strongly to the number one spot in Atlanta,” AKC Executive Secretary Gina DiNardo said in a statement. “But the Bulldog is certainly pawing its way up the ranks, landing only one place behind its cousin, the French Bulldog.”

Study: Atlanta Braves Tickets Are The Cheapest In Baseball

    2 Min Read

Tickets to see the Atlanta Braves play at SunTrust Park are the most affordable out of any MLB team, according to a new study. GoBankingRates.com looked at Major League Baseball stadiums and compared what it costs fans for tickets, food, beverages and parking.

Despite being one of the newest stadiums in all of MLB, admission to SunTrust Park came in No. 1in being the least expensive. When you add other expenses such as food, parking, etc, the Braves ballpark came in overall in second place, bested only by Coors Field.

The Braves began play last week in its second season at SunTrust Park after a quarter-century in downtown Atlanta’s Turner Field.

People heading to a Braves game are encouraged to park in Official SunTrust Parking Lots. There are 19 official parking lots operated by the Atlanta Braves that contain 14,000 parking spots. Prices in the lots range from $10 to $18, and parking can be purchased on the Braves website ahead of time.

Other insights from the GoBankingRates.com study showed that it costs nearly $100 to enjoy the amenities at some of MLB’s top ballparks.

  • Chai-Yo’s Purple Drank: The Nam Dok Cocktail

    1 Min Read

We told you about the recent opening of Chai-Yo, the Thai restaurant making a mighty name for itself in Buckhead.

Not only does the joint have to-die-for fare like “Plah Pla Meuk” a grilled marinated octopus in lime juice, Neau Panang and Khew Wan Kai, but it also has a pretty mean beverage program (Beverage programs are fancy terms for drink menus).

We’re giving you an assignment: Go to Chai-Yo and order the Nam Dok cocktail. The eatery recently posted about it on its Facebook page. Its comprised of Vodka, Falernum, Citrus, Butterfly Pea Flower.

The magic happens though when the bartender adds citrus. It changes to the color PURPLE.

Survey: Women of Color Prefer Natural Hair

    2 Min Read

Instead of “going natural,” a majority of women of color prefer to “keep it natural,” according to a new survey.

Seventy percent of the 1,200 women in the Cocotique Subscriber Survey responded that they prefer to wear their hair natural, which was defined as curly, coily, kinky or fro. Only 11 percent  said they opted for  relaxed or protective styles.  While 6 percent prefer to straighten their hair with heat, and 2 percent prefer locs.

Survey: Women of Color Prefer Natural Hair, Customized Formulas

The findings highlight that many women, despite decades of the contrary, are embracing their natural features and looking for ways to accent them rather than de-emphasize their looks.

Cocotique, a deluxe beauty box subscription service for women of color and HairRx Advanced Hair Care, collaborated in the survey as part of the 2018 Women of Color Hair Care Report.

“Customization is a strong trend in hair care, especially among women of color,” Dana Hill, Cocoteque founder and CEO, said in a written statement. “Women of color have a wide range of textures and it’s difficult to determine which product works best for a particular texture. It’s important for companies to embrace and celebrate this uniqueness. Companies like HairRx, that offer options for customers to find products for their specific hair types and concerns, will win in the marketplace.”

    Other report findings include:

    • 90 percent prefer luxurious lather to light lather in shampoo.
    • When it comes to scent, 39 percent prefer coconut, 22 percent love lavender, 16 percent enjoy jasmine, 12 percent like citrus and 10 percent would choose vanilla.

“Respondents indicate a variety of preferences, which is why HairRx provides 165 formulations, each designed to address specific hair care goals,” says Ellen Langas, Co-CEO of ProfilePro LLC, parent company of HairRx. “We invite customer feedback and utilize survey results like to provide the ultimate customization experience.”

Founded in 2014 by Joe Segel (best known as the founder of QVC), and salon owner Jodi Dery, ProfilePro LLC is a pioneer in customized hair care. The ProfilePro family of brands includes HairRx Advanced Hair CareCloud 10 Customized Hair Care and ProfilePro Home Hair Salon™ sets. Visit www.hairrx.com and www.cloud10hair.com.

  • SCAD FASH Presents Pierre Cardin Exhibit In Atlanta

    2 Min Read

French fashion designer Pierre Cardin is the subject of a fashion exhibition put on by Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). It opens this week and will run until Sept. 30.

The retrospective SCAD FASH Museum of Fashion + Film exhibition focuses on Cardin and his futuristic designs.

SCAD FASH Focuses On Pierre Cardin’s Futurism

Describing his principal philosophy, Cardin explained, “The clothes I prefer are the garments I invent for a lifestyle that does not yet exist — the world of tomorrow.” The exhibition celebrates Cardin’s spirit and vision, both unwaveringly inspired by the future.

Pierre Cardin has always been a futurist, and innovative thinking has served as the cornerstone of his immense career success. What better way to celebrate his legacy as a pioneer of design and business practice-in fashion, global commerce, art, architecture, advertising, entertainment-than a newly curated exhibition of his work at SCAD, the world’s preeminent university for creative professions?” said SCAD president and founder Paula Wallace in a written statement.

Wallace added: “Come to SCAD FASH to see what Pierre saw. Come celebrate the man, the creator, the legend. Come step into the future he saw for us all.”

The exhibition is open to the public with the cost of museum admission. Admission is free for all museum members, as well as SCAD students, faculty and staff with a valid SCAD Card. For more information on the exhibition, visit scadfash.org.
