French fashion designer Pierre Cardin is the subject of a fashion exhibition put on by Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). It opens this week and will run until Sept. 30.
The retrospective SCAD FASH Museum of Fashion + Film exhibition focuses on Cardin and his futuristic designs.
SCAD FASH Focuses On Pierre Cardin’s Futurism
Describing his principal philosophy, Cardin explained, “The clothes I prefer are the garments I invent for a lifestyle that does not yet exist — the world of tomorrow.” The exhibition celebrates Cardin’s spirit and vision, both unwaveringly inspired by the future.
“Pierre Cardin has always been a futurist, and innovative thinking has served as the cornerstone of his immense career success. What better way to celebrate his legacy as a pioneer of design and business practice-in fashion, global commerce, art, architecture, advertising, entertainment-than a newly curated exhibition of his work at SCAD, the world’s preeminent university for creative professions?” said SCAD president and founder Paula Wallace in a written statement.
Wallace added: “Come to SCAD FASH to see what Pierre saw. Come celebrate the man, the creator, the legend. Come step into the future he saw for us all.”
The exhibition is open to the public with the cost of museum admission. Admission is free for all museum members, as well as SCAD students, faculty and staff with a valid SCAD Card. For more information on the exhibition, visit scadfash.org.

The Atlanta metropolitan area continues to grow by leaps and bounds, coming in No. 4 in cities with the biggest number of people moving in. Georgia’s largest city is only behind Dallas, Houston and Phoenix in number of people moving in, despite rising property prices, according to new numbers from the U.S. Census Bureau.
Among America’s fastest growing regions, metro Atlanta has about 5.7 million residents, making it the ninth-largest metro area in the country. Much of the gains are happening in North Fulton County, which is the most affluent area of the metro area and state.
Just under 600,000 residents have moved into the Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Roswell area from 2010 and 2017, the census reports.
Since that time period only 12 other regions had more people added to their populations. Atlanta’s business climate, including a robust startup environment and the influx of Fortune 500 companies looking to plant roots here, has made the region a leading metro area.

Few people could imagine that when Prince came to the Fox Theatre for an intimate, stripped down performance on April 14, 2016, that it would be his last.
The artist had originally planned to play Atlanta on April 7, but he canceled for an undisclosed reason at the time. The word was that he had gotten a bug of some sort and needed a few more days to recover.
So he announced that he’d play two shows at the Fox a week later as part of his “Prince & a Microphone” show. Prince Rogers Nelson dropped dead in his elevator days later just outside Minneapolis. The Atlanta show will go down in history as the last time audiences heard the musical genius play.
