Atlanta Is #1 In ATM Fees. Here’s How To Avoid Them

    2 Min Read

Atlanta is tops in the nation when it comes to ATM fees, according to a new study from BankRate.com. The study looked at metropolitan areas with the highest and lowest bank fees, including charges for insufficient funds.

Atlanta residents are getting hit with the highest fees for using out-of-network ATMs and also rank in the top 10 for highest overdrafts.

When it comes to combined ATM fees, the national average is $4.64, but Atlantans are paying $5.60. Meanwhile,
Chicago residents pay the lowest ($4.11).

Let’s look at the top 5 and lowest 5 when it comes to ATM fees.

Cities With The Highest ATM Fees Cities With The Lowest ATM Fees
    1. Atlanta- $5.60 25. Chicago- $4.11
    2. Tampa- $5.20 24. Los Angeles- $4.17
    3. Detroit- $5.18 23. Seattle- $4.19
    4. Houston- $5.03 22. Boston- $4.28
    5. DC Metro- $4.93 21. Cincinnati- $4.31

“To avoid fees, consumers should limit ATM withdrawals to within their own bank’s network, says Bankrate.com’s Chief Financial Analyst Greg McBride, CFA. “While large banks have large ATM networks, many smaller banks and credit unions belong to nationwide fee-free alliances that may have significantly more ATMs available than even the ATM networks of big banks. One other option is getting cash-back at the point of sale when using a debit card. Banks don’t charge and very few merchants do either, amounting to a free withdrawal.”

How To Stop Those Bank Fees

Here are some tips shared by McBride on how to cut down on bank fees.

    1. “Consumers can avoid balance requirements and monthly fees by looking for a free, typically non-interest account,” McBride says.
    2. “Avoid interest checking accounts, with their high balance requirements, high monthly fees, and low yields averaging just 0.04%.,” he adds.
    3. “Nearly 90% of non-interest accounts are free or can become free by signing up for direct deposit,” adds McBride.

How to Save Money Automatically In 3 Steps

    2 Min Read

With millions of Americans mostly staying home these days, it’s the perfect time to put away some cash for a rainy day.

You may find it difficult to just “save” money if you’re used to going about your daily routine and spending here and there. But there’s an easy way to accomplish your savings goals.

This article will show you some insightful ways you can save money without any effort at all. The key is to save automatically.

The Best Way To Save Money: Automatically

When we say save automatically, we don’t mean that you need to put forth the effort to remember to move your money around every pay period. We’re talking about setting up your account to make sure you take out money automatically each time you get paid.

Let’s go over some ways to save automatically.

    1. Make Sure You Set Up Direct Deposit

The only way you can turn your funds into an autosaving operation is that you set up direct deposit on the same account that you send your paycheck. This way, any money that hits can be distributed to the proper channels you choose.

    2. Open A Savings Account

The first thing you should do is open a savings account and pull money from your paycheck to fill it automatically. What you’ll discover is that in a matter of months, you could have a significant stash in a separate account from your main one.

Here’s what to know about opening a savings account.

    3. Start A 401(K)

If your employer offers a 40a(k) retierement account, make sure you take advantage of it. Not only are they pre-tax dollars, but 401(Ks) are typically matched by your company.

That’s means if you put in $6,000 a year, you could get up to double that at the end of the year in your account.

Want to get started? Here’s what to know about a 401(k).

Should You Open A Savings Account?

    3 Min Read

One of the best ways to save money is to do it with a savings account. The under-the-mattress approach doesn’t work like it used to.

In this article, we’re going to go over why a savings account might make sense for you and what types to consider.

What Is A Savings Account And How Do They Work?

A savings account is one of the basic accounts you can open at your bank or credit union. With a savings account, you can deposit money and let it grow over time.

If you need the money, you can simply withdraw it from your savings account, but if you keep it in there it can earn interest.

You may be wondering what type of savings account should you get? Well, you need to pay particular attention to the kind your bank is offering.

Some savings accounts allow you to make little to know money on interest, so you’d want to steer clear of those. The type you want is a high yield savings account.

What Is A High Yield Savings Account?

A high yield savings account is one in which the high interest rate allows you to earn more money — as much as 25% higher than a traditional savings account.

To find out what type of interest you’ll get, notice the APY (annual percentage yield) of the savings account.

Should You Open A High Yield Savings Account?

As long as the bank is FDIC-insured, your money in a high yield savings account is guaranteed. So what’s the worry?

If the economy is in distress (like we are right now) you likely won’t make a lot of money in a high yield savings account. That means the amount of money you have in there will sway up and down.

So while you assume no risk of losing your initial deposit, the amount of interest you have on top of it is subject to market volatility.

Where Can I Open A Savings Account?

In the big city, you have plenty of options on where to open a savings account. Here are some major banks you may want to consider. These banks and the rates are good as of 2020.

    BankSavings Rate
    Alliant0.40%
    Nationwide 0.55%
    Discover Bank0.55%
    Marcus (Goldman Sachs)0.60%

    Final Words

Opening a savings account is a great way to make the most of your money. If you choose wisely, you will see an increase in your savings account little by little.

Donald Glover Promises ‘Magic’ From AtlantaFX Seasons 3 And 4

    3 Min Read

Stone Mountain native Donald Glover is ready to shine again. The AtlantaFX star tweeted on Friday, Nov. 7 that he’s got some new heat in the works. If you’ve wondering how AtlantaFX Seasons 3 and 4 will go, here’s what he had to say on Twitter.

“While I’m here: ‘Atlanta’s 3+s4 are going to be some of the best television ever made. Sopranos only ones who can touch us,” he tweeted.

Not since Season 2’s “Robbin’ Season” has the anticipation for AtlantaFX been so intense.

What we know about AtlantaFX Seasons 3 and 4 are that they are being shot in succession like “part one and two,” according to the network’s president, who dished on the show during a pandemic Zoom call.

The first episodes of Season 3 are scheduled to be released in January 2021, while the next eight will be due in the autumn.

Filming locations are reportedly set around Atlanta, other parts of Georgia and even abroad.

The show’s popularity is centered on Glover, who is a manager and promoter for his cousin, an aspiring rapper.

    What Is Atlanta FX About?

it has become TV-making lore that Glover pitched the head of FX on a whole other show than what we recognize now as Atlanta.

If you’ve never watch Atlanta FX, you may be wondering what it’s about. The show is based on the interactions between two close cousins and their mutual friend in Atlanta, Georgia.

Earn (Glover) is a down-on-his-luck father who is trying to mend his relationship with his baby’s mother. He’s terrible at keeping a job so he agrees to manage the fledging rap career of his cousin Alfred (Brian Tyree Henry), who raps under the stage name “Paper Boi”.

That’s a lot going on, but if you add Darius (Lakeith Stanfield) in the mix, the hijinks commence.

    Final Word

For those in America, Atlanta FX is available on two streaming services: Hulu and Amazon Prime Video. Here’s how to watch Atlanta FX.

Atlanta has become a movie mecca in recent years and Georgia has been a favorite location for TV productions since the state instituted generous tax breaks for film companies that agree to shoot locally. Projects from CBS, NBC, HBO, BET and more are slated to shoot in the latter part of the year and the foreseeable future.

Because of the steady flow of movie and TV productions, Atlanta has been called the Hollywood of the South and it’s not just a label.. If you want to be an actor, the city has classes you can take as well as places that provide headshots and more. You can also audition at numerous casting calls to build your movie and TV reel.

With more than 900 movie and TV projects just in the last few years, the film industry has generated more than $9 billion for the state of Georgia.
There are so many movies filmed in Atlanta these days that it’s hard to keep up with it all. That’s why I suggest you subscribe to AtlantaFi.com to get all the freshest movie casting calls, celeb sightings and Atlanta happenings delivered to your inbox.

Should You Be A Virtual Assistant?

When deciding whether becoming a virtual assistant is the job for you, you need to review the benefits. What are you trying to achieve in your career by being a virtual assistant?

Becoming a virtual assistant and controlling your own schedule, being your own boss can be one of the most rewarding jobs you’ll ever have.

You’ll also need to consider what you’ll charge, but we’ll talk more about that later.

    Virtual Assistant: Pros And Cons

Believe it or not, there are some pros and cons to becoming a virtual assistant. Let’s talk about some of them.

    Pros Cons
    • Typically work from home
    • Work can be sporadic
    • You can set your own hours
    • You may not like what you’re doing
    • You can pick and choose your assignments
    • Get along with various clients

Is Virtual Assistant A Good Job?

Virtual Assistant jobs: Are they stressful?

Most virtual assistants will tell you that they enjoy their jobs, but what you should understand is that it’s essentially a contract position. As a freelancer, you have a lot of freedom, but there may be work lulls you’re not comfortable with.

Being a virtual assistant is a good job for those with either a steady and consistent client base or a plan to space out their work equally. With that said, you may be thinking if becoming a virtual assistant makes sense for you.

How Do I Become A Virtual Assistant?

You can become a virtual assistant by marketing yourself on the web and on social media. Here are some things you’ll need to get your business going:

Once you’ve positioned yourself to become a virtual assistant, you’ll need to attract clients.

The key to being a successful virtual assistant is by building business relationships. Remember, when you start off, your prices may need to be low to attract business. As your clientele grows, so will your budget.

Read more on what clients look for in How To Hire A Virtual Assistant.

What Skills Do Virtual Assistants Need?

When it comes to expertise, virtual assistants need to have a basic skillset to be successful. At the top of the list is a collaborative spirit. After all, you’re going to be working in tandem with a founder, owner or support staff.

You’ll also need to be communicative. Some who start their virtual assistant businesses have found it beneficial to overcommunicate with their clients. That way, there’s no ambiguity about what’s needed or expected.

Here are some of the skills that a virtual assistant should be familiar with:

    • Great Listening Ability
    • Basic Computer Skills (Data entry / Typing)
    • Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.)
    • Google Services (Gmail, Google Doc, Sheets, etc.)
    • Ability to schedule meetings
    • Book travel and accommodations
    • Create presentations

How Much Does A Virtual Assistant Make?

When it comes to making money, a virtual assistant has a wide range of profitability. Because you can work full- or part-time, the rate of pay can vary greatly.

As an example, if you’re tasked with creating a Powerpoint presentation for a client, if the going rate for a graphic designer is $35 an hour, then you could bill them for how much time it takes based on that.

There really is no ceiling when it comes to how much a virtual assistant can make. For that reason, many business owners choose to partner with them or make them equity partners to cut down on the loss of capital.

How Do I Find Virtual Assistant Jobs?

In addition to networking on social media sites and asking your circle of friends and family, you need to take advantage of technology.

Search for job posts that specify the kind of help they want. Go to sites like Craigslist and NextDoor and offer your services to business owners. You’d be surprised how many of them could use some help with their endeavors.

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, Wife In Quarantine After COVID-19 Exposure

Georgia Gov. Brian and First Lady have tested negative after being exposed to a person who recently tested positive for coronavirus, his office said Friday.

“The Governor is currently quarantining due to direct exposure within the last 48 hours to an individual who recently tested positive.” Kemp’s office said in a statement. “The First Lady is not known to have been exposed to a confirmed case,”

Georgia Governor, Wife Quarantining After COVID-19 Exposure

Georgia Rep. Drew Ferguson also announced that he tested positive for coronavirus. Both he and Kemp were together earlier in the week at a rally in which many people didn’t wear masks or do social distancing.

Kemp has been a strident critic of any legislation that mandates that masks be worn by Georgia residents. Instead he has opted to wear them in public and promote them at appearances.

He has employed a series of executive orders for older Georgians to shelter in place while freeing the state’s businesses to conduct operations as close to normal as they can.

In May, Kemp tweeted: “I encourage all Georgians to continue to maintain social distancing, limit their travel, and use best practices. Gatherings of more than 10 people will not be allowed unless it is possible to maintain 6 feet of distance.”

Kemp has been defiant in the face of critics who have said that Georgia is risking the lives of its residents by trying to resume normal life amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Kemp posted on Twitter recently that Georgia was ready to ramp up COVID-19 testing as it re-opens.

“We have numerous testing sites, physicians, & tests. We just need more Georgians to participate,” he said. “If you are symptomatic or work on the frontlines, download the Augusta University ExpressCare app or call 706-721-1852 to schedule a free test. RT to spread the word!”

Earlier in the year, Kemp and Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms got into a public riff over her insistence on a mask mandate. Since then, the two have maintained a tense peace even as Bottoms and her family contracted COVID-19.

How To Hire A Virtual Assistant

    3 Min Read

If you’re looking to hire a virtual assistant, you should know what your needs are before you spend any money. This article is going to explain everything you need to know about hiring a virtual assistant.

A virtual assistant is one of the hottest remote jobs in the Southeast. Let’s look at five things that you should now before you hire a virtual assistant.

    What Is A Virtual Assistant?

A virtual assistant is a contract employee that works on a project-by-project basis for your business. Because these assistants can work remotely, they are typically “virtual” although not always.

In today’s workforce, a virtual assistant is a fulfillment role for small- and medium-sized businesses. If you get hired, you can expect to perform multiple tasks. Let’s talk about that now.

What Does A Virtual Assistant Do?

A virtual assistant typically does complimentary work for your LLC sole proprietor business or small firm. They don’t usually work on one thing, but are typically able to assist in multiple projects.

Because they are not full-time employees, you typically wouldn’t assign them heavy lifting of your business, although if you’re strapped for cash, this arrangement can work out.

Entrepreneurs and CEOs hire virtual assistants to perform various clerical and administrative roles.

What Should I Ask Myself Before I Hire A Virtual Assistant?

If you’re interested in hiring a virtual assistant, there are some questions you need to know about the tasks you need done, like:

    • What Are The Work Hours?
    • What Deadlines Should I Set?
    • How Much Can I Afford To Pay?
    • Can I Afford to Pay Extra For Overtime / Rush Jobs?

Before you start your search, write down the various tasks that you would like a virtual assistant to fulfill.

What Are Some Roles A Virtual Assistant Performs?

A virtual assistant can perform several different roles for their clients. Here is a partial list based on some virtual assistant needs from companies in Atlanta:

    • Office Administrator
    • Executive Assistant
    • HR
    • PR
    • Publicity Agent

    • Notary
    • Policy Writer
    • Grant Writer
    • Content Writer
    • Branding Consultant
