Janelle Monae recently released the film that goes with her new album “Dirty Computer.” The movie, which is aptly described as an “emotion picture,” tells the tale of what happens when androids are considered “unclean” if they have freeness of thought and original notions. The film features cuts from her album amid a dystopian imagery and themes.
Monae’s unique brand of afrofuturism, R&B and pop interwoven with social commentary puts her on the vanguard not only in music, but in entertainment as a whole. Now she’s ready to take on the world.
She has seen success on a large scale this time around, with her third full album about to pop. Her new single “I Like That,” has received critical acclaim, especially for its Prince influence.

This year’s film entries, more than 7,600, broke a record. The final movie lineup consists of 58 feature length films and 150 short films from 56 countries. Many of this year’s movies will be by firsttime filmmakers and women.“Now is an exciting time to be making films and telling these stories, because there aren’t as many expectations of rejection or pressures to be polite,” says Atlanta writer/director Katie Orr, told The AJC. “Women are empowered right now and instead of nicely asking for a chance, we’re saying, ‘No, you will listen to our stories and we will be the ones doing the storytelling.’”The films will be screened at various locations around Midtown Atlanta.
