With the recent opening of the new Atlanta restaurant Boxcar in West End, I couldn’t wait to sink my teeth into some of the good eats I’d been hearing about.
The company behind Boxcar is Hop City, which is known for its expansive alcohol offerings at Ponce City Market. Now, at Lee + White in southwest Atlanta, the team is poised for another success.
What’s on the menu at Boxcar Atlanta?
Boxcar’s menu is divided into a “For Sharing” section that lets big parties eat from a common dish, “In a Bowl,” “Greens & Things” for the health-conscious, “Hand-Held” and “Living Large.”
Once I saw the Boxcar Beef Burger featuring an 8oz. bison patty, sherried mushrooms, brioche, blue cheese whip and horseradish mustard, I was sold.
I also ordered some fries and to chase it down, a dark IPA.
I had grown accustomed to new Atlanta restaurants not being ready for primetime in the first week of operations, but for Boxcar I was pleasantly surprised.
Once the Boxcar Beef Burger came, I bit into it and was instantly overcome with juice and flavor. The burger was excellent, both in portion and taste.
It was so good that I can’t wait to go back (I want to try the Big Bleu Bison Burger and Yuzu Fried Chicken!

What are Boxcar’s hours of operation?
Boxcar will be open Sunday from 11 am to 10 pm, Wednesday and Thursday from 5 pm to 10 pm and Friday and Saturday from 11 am to 12 am. Hop City’s retail area will be open Monday-Thursday from 11 am to 10 pm, Friday and Saturday from 11 am to 12 am and Sunday from 12:00 pm to 10 pm.
Showing its humanitarian side, a portion of Boxcar’s sales will go to the Atlanta Mission. Hop City will also be partnering with WorkSource Georgia to help keep longtime West End residents working to earn a living wage.
