On Thursday, March 28 liquid blackness, a research group on blackness and aesthetics from the Moving Image Studies doctoral program at Georgia State University, will host a conversation on “(A) Black Lineage of the Music Art Video” during Contemporary Cocktails at Atlanta Contemporary.
This event will take place at Atlanta Contemporary 535 Means Street Northwest Atlanta, GA 30318.
Performing in Atlanta: Liquid Blackness
Faculty founder, Alessandra Raengo and other members of the liquid blackness research group, Jenny Gunn and Jazmine Hudson, will screen and discuss the music video work of contemporary black filmmakers including Arthur Jafa, Kahlil Joseph, Bradford Young, and Jenn Nkiru who have been the focus of liquid blackness research projects. The Contemporary Cocktails conversation will provide background on the work of liquid blackness and the evolution of the music art video in preparation for the upcoming visit of British-Nigerian filmmaker, Jenn Nkiru who will be visiting Atlanta Sunday, April 14th for a screening and artist talk.
Parking is free in the lot at Bankhead & Means streets. You can access the lot via Bankhead Avenue and proceed past the parking attendant booth.

Atlanta movie mogul Tyler Perry’s latest flick “A Madea Family Funeral ” recently was released in theaters.
The film is slated to be the last of the Madea franchise, which has made Perry a fortune.
“A Madea Family Funeral” is about Madea and her family enjoying a reunion that takes a turn as the relatives have to travel to backwoods Georgia, where they find themselves unexpectedly planning a funeral that might unveil unsavory family secrets.
After being pushed back, the film was finally released on March 1, 2019 by Lionsgate.
Aside from Perry as Madea Simmons, the film stars Cassi Davis as Aunt Bam, Patrice Lovely as Hattie and Mike Tyson as Roy.

New rental units, called the Novel Upper Westside Apartments, are going up in Atlanta, the Summit Contracting Group, its builder, announced recently.
Construction on Novel Upper Westside, a three-building structure, began in November 2018 and is slated to be complete in the fall of 2020. The development will consist of 345 units spread across 305,405 square feet.

Novel Upper Westside will have a number of amenities such as a fitness center, club rooms, pool courtyard, park/plaza, roof-top lounge and dog park.
Summit Contracting has worked on Atlanta developments before, notably the Helios building on Cheshire Bridge Road in Buckhead. The developer is Crescent Communities and the architect is Rule Joy Trammel + Rubio, LLC.
