Bed, Bath and Beyond recently announced that it was closing nearly 40 more stores across the country as the copany teeters toward bankruptcy. In the Atlanta market, some popular store locations have not been spared.
This article will tell you what you need to know about the Bed, Bath and Beyond store closures in metro Atlanta and which store locations will stay open.
Why Is Bed, Bath & Beyond in Financial Trouble?
Bed, Bath & Beyond, like many retailers, is struggling with inventory issues in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, which severely constrained the supply chain and led to worker shortages. That has led to big sales, but not enough.
More importantly, Bed, Bath & Beyond is coping with liquidity (money) woes. It doesn’t have the cash to support how much debt it has accumulated over the past three years and is trying to stay solvent by initiating stock buybacks and trimming stores and personnel.
For the everyday customer, that means they’ve been seeing more store closures.

In the third quarter of 2022, the company told shareholders that it had failed to reach its revenue benchmark, reporting sales of $1.2 billion compared to $1.8 billion for the same period a year before. This meant that more changes were in store for the bathware store.
When the latest store closures were announced, Sue Gove, President & CEO of Bed Bath & Beyond said, “Today’s announcement underscores the importance of having initiated a turnaround at the start of the third quarter and why we strengthened our leadership team to execute each step with precision. Our plan has two anchors: the first enables us to refocus merchandising and inventory, operate more efficiently, and grow our digital and omni-capabilities, and the second focuses on strengthening our financial position.”
The closures are part of the company’s plans to trim overhead, which it announced a couple of years ago.
