If you’re familiar with Be Steadwell, you know the singer-songwriter-filmmaker is a force of nature. The Washington, D.C.-based artist will be in the ATL on July 1 to perform at the Red Light Cafe in Midtown Atlanta.

July 1: An Evening with Be Steadwell

With roots in jazz, a capella and folk, Be calls her music “queer pop,” The independent artist has performed at a number of high-profile events, including the Women’s March in 2017. She is known for her style of self-harmonizing (vocal layering) and even beat boxing.

In her journey to becoming an accomplished songwriter, Be Steadwell produced a film called “Vow of Silence,” which received awards at film festivals around the world, including Black Star, QWOCMAP, and Fringe Fest UK. Issa Rae Featured the song in her Short Film Sundays series.

Be said that she’s actually been working on another film, in addition to producing music.

“I’m working on a feature; it’s very slow going,” she told AZ Magazine in 2016. “You know when you’re not in school and you’re not surrounded by a community of people who are workshopping with you?   It’s just very hard to motivate yourself. But a part of me feels like until I do this feature, there’s something missing. I really feel like I have do it. My goal is to produce it by 2017.

Be Steadwell will perform Sunday, July 1, 2018, 8  – 10:00 p.m.
