Prince Akeem is coming to Peachtree. The long-awaited sequel to “Coming to America” will film in Atlanta, according to news reports.
Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall have signed on for leading roles so far. Craig Brewer (“Hustle & Flow) is attached to the project as director.
Jermaine Fowler (“Sorry To Bother You”) has been cast as a lead, fueling speculation that he will be Akeem’s son.
‘Coming to America 2’ plans to film in Atlanta
“Coming to America 2” or “Coming 2 America,” as the movie is being called, has been slated for a release date in August 2020.
The plot of the movie is said to center on Akeem coming back to America after learning that he has a long-lost son. That son would be the heir to the throne in Zamunda, the African kingdom.
When Akeem finds his son, he is barely making it in Queens. Early reports are that comedian Dave Chappelle is in talks to join the project as well.
Success of original ‘Coming to America’
The original film was released in the United States on June 29, 1988. It debuted at #1, taking in $28.4 million at the box office in its opening weekend.
“Coming to America” would go on to earn $228 million worldwide.
With Murphy playing a variety of roles, the film garnered two Oscar nominations, one for makeup and the other for costume design.

The food was superb, the offerings sublime, the settings were amazing. The Atlanta Food & Wine Festival 2019 showed why it is the premiere food event in the Southeast.
The festival began Thursday, May, 30 2019 at 6:00 PM. The first event was called ” Stars Atlanta: Coming Together Over Exceptional Food and Wine in the Fight Against Prostate Cancer.”
Atlanta Food & Wine Festival 2019: Review
As with many others, the setup was very attendee-friendly and catered to those visiting the city for this joyous occasion.
The chefs, makers and other talent were all in high spirits as they shared their secrets and culinary expertise with the crowds.
As for me, it was my first Atlanta Food & Wine Festival, so I didn’t know quite what to expect. I found it pleasant, fun and exceptionally planned.
Brunch… is served
There were two notable brunches over the weekend that set the tone: Saturday’s Savor Arkansas and Sunday’s Great Bake Sale.
The Savor Arkansas breakfast shone a spotlight on the culinary excellence of the Razorback state. The vendors not only put on a show of grace and hospitality, but the food was downright outstanding — exactly the kind of royal Southern meal you’d expect.
The Great Bake Sale brunch featured bite-size concepts that catered to the sweet tooth. (S/O to the bread pudding).
Of course, it wouldn’t be an Atlanta Food & Wine Festival event, without free-flowing libations to lighten the atmosphere and couple with sweetened palates.
In Historic Fourth Ward Park is where the festival’s Tasting Tents were located. Thousands of foodies congregated over the three-day weekend to sample and savor the food from the region’s most renown eateries.
To put it in a word, it was simply delicious (OK, two words).
The Atlanta Food & Wine Festival is a well-organized machine that I would recommend times 10!
Atlanta is having a restaurant renaissance. Hot chicken is the rage in Atlanta’s dining scene right now. But so are chicken and waffles.
Fast-casual is also the dining trend du jour around metro Atlanta restaurants. The concept involves mixing the quick accessibility of fast food with the casual dining experience. Food in Atlanta is also adapting to the various tastes of the migrants that come here to live.

Little Rey opened its doors on Monday, May 27, 2019 in Piedmont Heights neighborhood of Atlanta. The new Atlanta restaurant introduced the city to one of its signature dishes, chicken al carbon.
Atlanta restaurateur Ford Fry launched Little Ray as a pop-up eatery specializing in Tex-Mex. The new restaurant focuses on wood-roasted chicken, called “al carbon,” and other Tex-Mex-inspired fare like tacos and margaritas.
Little Rey Pollo ‘Al Carbon’ opened in the space formerly occupied by Anchor Bar & Tattoo.
Little Rey offers breakfast, lunch and dinner, including takeaway options.
What are the hours at Little Rey?
Little Rey is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Fry is hoping the new eatery becomes a smashing success like his Superica establishments, El Felix and his other ventures around town. Will it? Time will tell. We plan to eat there so and will update you.
Where is Little Rey located in Atlanta?
Little Rey is located at 1878 PIedmont Ave. NE Atlanta GA 30324. Here is a map to help you find it.

Sear Restaurant in downtown Atlanta is no secret to the city’s culinary gods. Tucked away on the second floor of the grand Marriott Marquis lobby, the eatery has enjoyed exclusive patronage from travelers, tourists and conventioneers.
Much like the city itself, many of its institutions are repositioning themselves as Atlanta status — bouyed by its international airport — climbs up the ranks as a global city.
Sear restaurant review: Elegant Atlanta restaurant anchors Marriott Marquis
You see it in the city’s new architecture, its growth strategy in its neighborhoods, and yes, even in its restaurants.
Amid this backdrop, I visited Sear restaurant months after a recent renovation to see how the eatery had changed.
The interior of the eatery is a beautiful tribute to American influence. The pillars have the same tone as the Statue of Liberty.
The team behind the redo is Interior designer, HeCho Inc., which was enlisted to create a majestic dining atmosphere inspired by the style of legendary Atlanta Marriott Marquis architect John Portman.
Sear bills itself as a fire-inspired steakhouse, but it is much, much more. The full-service restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.
What’s on the menu at Sear?
For lunch, there’s Spicy Fried Chicken and Blackened Fish. The dinner menu has such favorites as Stone Mountain Pecan Grouper, Pan Seared Diver Scallops and Cauliflower Steak.
Here are some photos of the food at Sear:
I tried the blackened fish and Georgia Shrimp Bisque as a starter. Not only was the blackened fish tender as a baby’s behind, but it was seasoned to perfection.
For dessert, I had the cheesecake, which was a ideal finale for a hearty meal in the upscale Atlanta restaurant.
What are the hours of Sear restaurant?
if you want to visit Sear, you need to know when to go. Sear operates the following business schedule:
Hours
Breakfast
- Monday – Sunday: 6:30 – 11:00am
Lunch
- Monday – Sunday: 11:30am – 2:00pm
Dinner
- Monday – Sunday: 5:30 – 10:00pm

It’s also fun to have a chance to serve our guests during the day, as currently we only serve dinner at our restaurants.”
