Half a century after the death of civil rights leader the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. crowds are expected to gather the second Monday in January at the center built in his memory and life’s work.

Free Admission At These Atlanta Museums 

The Atlanta History Center will admit visitors for free for special programming for the federal holiday. Same thing for the Margaret Mitchell House in Midtown.

In April 4, 1968, King was planning to march on Washington, D.C., in a Poor People’s Campaign, when he was assassinated on the balcony of the  Lorraine Hotel in Memphis, Tennessee. James Earl Ray was convicted in the murder.
