Atlanta is one of the cities selected by Sprint that will receive 5G technology in the first half of 2019, the cell phone carrier says. Atlanta is getting 5G as competition for the service heats up among the other networks.
Sprint’s greatly expanded Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) partnership with Google means metro Atlanta’s Google Fi customers will also enjoy 5G services.
Sprint, Google to bring 5G internet speed in Atlanta
5G is super-fast internet service that will increase webpage-loading times as well as the speed and resolution of video content. It will reportedly be 10 times faster than 4G.
Atlanta is getting 5G as one of nine cities, along with Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, New York City, Phoenix and Washington, D.C.
“We are incredibly excited to expand our existing relationship with Google to include 5G,” said Jan Geldmacher, president of Sprint Business. “This announcement also showcases our dedication to collaborating with Google as we prepare to launch one of the world’s first mobile 5G networks covering multiple major cities.”
