Judge Approves Sale of Uncle Nearest Whiskey’s Martha’s Vineyard Property

Nashville, Tenn. — A federal judge has greenlit the sale of a Martha’s Vineyard home owned by Tennessee-based Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey as the embattled distiller continues navigating court-supervised proceedings.

The property, located at 471 West Tisbury Road in Edgartown, Massachusetts, is under contract for approximately $2.6 million. U.S. District Judge Aleta A. Trauger (or Atchley Jr., per reports) determined the transaction serves the best interests of the company’s creditors.

Sale of Uncle Nearest Property Approved by Judge

Uncle Nearest purchased the roughly 2,300-square-foot home in 2023 for $2.2 million. The property has become entangled in the company’s broader financial and legal challenges.

The whiskey brand has been in receivership since 2025 following a series of lawsuits and financial difficulties. A Nashville lawyer was appointed as receiver, and earlier attempts at bankruptcy filings were dismissed or deemed unauthorized.

The approved sale marks another step in efforts to stabilize Uncle Nearest’s operations and satisfy outstanding obligations to creditors. Details about the buyer are expected to become public within approximately 45 days, pending final court requirements.

Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey, known for its award-winning Tennessee whiskeys honoring the legacy of Nathan “Nearest” Green, rose rapidly in the spirits industry but has faced significant headwinds in recent years amid expansion and market pressures.

This development comes as the receiver continues managing the company’s assets and exploring potential broader resolutions, including possible sale of the distillery itself.
