The Atlanta Falcons officially revealed their new primary uniforms on Thursday, marking a significant shift as the team returns to bold red home jerseys for the first time in years.
The redesign, which will debut in the 2026 NFL season, was developed over two years with substantial input from players to prioritize performance, comfort, and a connection to the franchise’s history.
New Falcons Go Heavy on the Red
At the heart of the new look is the return of red as the primary home jersey color, replacing the black jerseys that had served as the main home option since 2020. The vibrant red pays homage to the team’s early identity and some of its most successful eras.
The Falcons sent season ticket holders emails with 30% off pre-sale codes.
According to the Falcons, red has been part of 13 of the team’s 17 winning seasons and was prominently featured during iconic periods featuring stars like Michael Vick and Julio Jones. The new home uniform pairs the red jersey with a black helmet, white pants, and red socks.
The uniforms were crafted using Nike’s advanced Vapor F.U.S.E. fabric, a stretchy, high-performance material designed for maximum mobility and athlete comfort.
Players and team officials emphasized functionality alongside aesthetics, with the redesign focusing on a “faster, smarter” uniform built for movement on the field.Helmet updates include a low-gloss black finish and a switch to silver facemasks (moving away from the previous brushed nickel style for better consistency and manufacturing).
The full lineup features multiple combinations: the new red home jerseys, road white uniforms, black alternates, and the beloved classic 1966 throwbacks, which will remain a staple. Red helmets for throwback looks are also staying in the rotation.
Current Falcons players expressed excitement about the change. Wide receiver Drake London and cornerback A.J. Terrell, among others, shared childhood memories tied to the red jerseys, viewing the return as a nod to the team’s heritage while building a new identity.
London specifically praised the updated number font, noting it blends traditional, old-school styling with modern Falcon flair.
Fan reactions have been mixed.
Many praised the cleaner, more timeless design and the nostalgic return to red as a refreshing upgrade that honors the past. Others, however, found the look somewhat plain or basic compared to recent uniforms.
“I feel like the Falcons unveil the same uniforms every year,” said one user on Facebook.
The Word
Overall, the Falcons describe the new uniforms as “authentic, fast, and timeless”—a blend of historical pride and forward-looking performance that aims to energize players and fans alike as the team enters a new chapter.
The redesigned kits will be worn starting in the 2026 season, giving Atlanta a fresh visual identity rooted in its winning traditions.
