No. 1 Georgia turned in its best performance on their 2023 football schedule with a 51-13 victory over 20th-ranked Kentucky on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2023.
The Bulldogs scored every time they touched the ball in the first half, taking a 34-7 lead into the tunnel at halftime.
Georgia Is Playing With Confidence
UGA quarterback Carson Beck said the Dawgs started strong due to the confidence they got from last week’s win at Auburn.
“I definitely think there is a thing such as momentum, so coming into the game after coming off a road win in the SEC, we felt good and very confident,” Beck said in postgame comments. “That showed tonight.”
It also showed from Beck’s performance, in which he tossed four touchdowns for 389 yards.
The Dawgs’ star tight end Brock Bowers finished the game with seven catches for 132 yards.
The Wildcats were outplayed in every facet of the game on a night that many UK fans thought they would be up to the task.
‘The Moment Was Too Big for Them’
“It is hard to come up with an opening statement after a beatdown like that,” Kentucky coach Mark Stoops said. “It has been a while. It doesn’t feel good. I told the team that the good news is that it counts as one game.”
Stoops said although he thought his team was ready, after Georgia jumped out to a 14-0 lead after one quarter, he knew the ‘Cats were in trouble.
I just didn’t have them ready for that moment,” Stoops said. “The moment was too big for them. We didn’t play very good, we didn’t play very disciplined, we didn’t play very tough. We didn’t get it done.”
Kirby Likes UGA’s Physicality
Georgia coach Kirby Smart said what we saw on the field was what was preached during the week at practice.
“Our players started fast, finally, and that was great to get a start-fast game,” Smart said. “We challenged them all week to have a connected physicality.”
