The Georgia Bulldogs enter the 2026 college football season as the preseason No. 3 team in the AP Top 25 and the highest-ranked program in the SEC, with Kirby Smart in his 11th year as head coach.
Coming off a 12-2 campaign in 2025 that included a second straight SEC championship (a 28-7 win over Alabama) and a College Football Playoff appearance that ended in a Sugar Bowl loss to Ole Miss, Georgia returns quarterback Gunner Stockton and looks to contend again for a national title.
Smart’s record at Georgia stands at 117-21 with two national championships and four SEC titles.

Georgia opens at home against Tennessee State, a first-time opponent and FCS program coming off a 0-1 start. The Bulldogs are heavy favorites in a game that will introduce new offensive pieces after significant turnover at wide receiver. Stockton, an All-SEC quarterback in his second year as starter, returns along with tailbacks Nate Frazier and Chauncey Bowens. The defense, particularly the back seven, is viewed as a strength.
The non-conference portion stays relatively light after the opener, with Western Kentucky visiting in Week 2. SEC play begins immediately on the road at Arkansas, followed by a high-profile home game against No. 10 Oklahoma—the second meeting in the series after Georgia’s 54-48 overtime Rose Bowl win in the 2018 College Football Playoff.
