FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. — Shauna Patterson grew up going to Fun Spot America Atlanta and has fond memories.
”We used to ride the roller coaster all day,” the Rex resident says. “If they’re going away, that’s a big blow to the kids.”
But going away they are.
Fun Spot Closing in Fayetteville
An Atlanta-area staple for family fun and adrenaline-pumping rides will soon shutter its gates for good. Fun Spot America Atlanta announced Thursday that its Fayetteville location will operate for the final time on Sunday, August 2, 2026.
The park, located at 1675 Highway 85 North, has been a fixture in the south metro Atlanta region since opening as Dixieland Fun Park in 1990 — marking roughly 36 years of operation. It later operated as Fun Junction USA before Florida-based Fun Spot America Theme Parks acquired it in 2017 and rebranded it as Fun Spot America Atlanta.
A Legacy of Family Entertainment and Big Investments
Originally a modest family entertainment center with go-karts, mini-golf, arcade games, and small rides, the park evolved under new ownership and became a favorite spot for Atlanta kids.
Fun Spot poured resources into upgrades, most notably adding the standout ArieForce One roller coaster — a high-thrill attraction that drew coaster enthusiasts from across the region. Other highlights include Georgia’s first and only multi-level go-kart track (The Samson, a four-story behemoth), a Ferris wheel, batting cages, family rides, and more recent additions like the golf-themed Hook & Slice ride.
The company described the closure as “an extremely difficult decision” in a statement from CEO John Arie Jr. “Our Atlanta team has poured their hearts into serving our guests and creating a place where families could have fun together,” Arie said. “We are deeply grateful for their dedication and for the support we have received from the Fayetteville community.”
No official reason was provided for the shutdown. Some observers have noted historically lower attendance compared to the chain’s Florida parks, despite investments aimed at elevating the Atlanta site to a full regional amusement destination.
What Happens Next?
Fun Spot America will continue operating its two Florida locations in Orlando and Kissimmee. Season passes and gift cards for the Atlanta park will remain valid through August 2 and will afterward be honored at the Florida parks.
The fate of the property and its rides, including the popular ArieForce One, remains uncertain. No announcements have been made regarding relocation, sale, or demolition.
The park plans to stay open through its final day with regular hours (10 a.m. to 10 p.m.), encouraging fans to visit one last time and create lasting memories.
For many in the Atlanta area, Fun Spot America represented more than just rides — it was a local gathering spot for birthdays, school outings, and summer evenings filled with screams of delight and the scent of funnel cakes. While its closure marks the end of an era in Fayetteville, the spirit of those 36 years of thrills will linger in the memories of generations of families.
If you’ve been meaning to take one last spin on ArieForce One or a lap around The Samson, now is the time. The gates close for good on August 2.
