Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan signed the richest contract in NFL history in terms released Thursday, the team said. Ryan, or Matty Ice as he is called, will enjoy $100 million of that in guaranteed money. The five-year deal will pay him $30 million a year.

Matt has proven to be a leader for this franchise on and off the field, and we are fortunate to have him as our quarterback. Matt has guided us to a decade of success that is unmatched in franchise history, but we all know there is more to be accomplished, and we are confident we can get that done with Matt.”

A 10-year NFL veteran, Ryan has passed for more yards in his first decade of playing than any other quarterback in league history. In 2016, Ryan won the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year award.

In 2013, Ryan signed a six-year, $103.75 million contract that was due to expire after the this season.
