Actor and former Stone Mountain resident Donald Glover is dishing on season 3 of his hit TV show “Atlanta,” saying that the FX show will take a lesson from how Kanye West has developed his early productions.
“I align the seasons I think, to me, like Kanye records,” Glover said at an Emmys FYC screening and panel for the show on Friday night in Los Angeles. “I feel like this is our ‘Graduation.’ This is probably our most accessible but also the realest — an honest version of it — and I feel like the most enjoyable, like the third album.”
Atlanta FX renewed for season 3
The show was recently given a third season by FX executives, who praised it for its honest and comedic portrayal of life for young black men.
Atlanta is phenomenal, achieving and exceeding what few television series have done,” FX programming head NickGrad was quoted as saying. “With Atlanta Robbin’ Season, Donald and his collaborators elevated the series to even greater heights, building on the enormous success of their award-winning first season. We’re grateful to the producers and our extraordinary cast and crew for achieving this level of excellence, and we share the excitement with our audience about the third season knowing they will continue to take us to unexpected and thrilling places.”
Glover, who also moonlights as a successful rapper named Childish Gambino, says the cast is eager to build on the show’s success.
“We were all on iMessage together and kind of talking about it, and I think people were really hungry to like beat ourselves, which is great,: he told the panel.
The show also stars Brian Tyree Henry, Lakeith Stanfield and Zazie Beetz.
