The City of South Fulton has opened an upgraded, more inclusive playground at Creel Park, giving families a new outdoor space designed so children of different abilities can play together.

”I love it,” said Sandy Sprull, who lives an adjacent neighborhood. “I can get my walk on and enjoy beautiful scenery at the same time.”

Creel Park Gets Major Upgrade in South Fulton

That’s kind of the idea. City officials marked the completion of improvements to the 3,689-square-foot playground with a ribbon-cutting ceremony last week. The work, done in partnership with Playworx, added features intended to meet Americans with Disabilities Act guidelines and broaden who can use the site.

“This playground represents an investment in our children, our families, and the quality of life in our community,” Mayor Carmalitha Gumbs said. “We appreciate the partnership with Playworx for helping to build a new playground that welcomes children of all abilities.”

The upgrades include overhead shades, music and sensory activity panels, elevated decks and wide ramps, and cooling, durable green turf.

District 6 Councilwoman Natasha Williams-Brown said Creel Park is an important gathering place for local families. “I look forward to seeing our kids explore this fresh, new and safe space to play,” she said.

City Council members, Playworx representatives, city leaders, and community partners attended the ceremony.

The project was paid for with a Community Development Block Grant, federal funding administered through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for local community development, infrastructure, housing rehabilitation, and public services.

City officials described the playground as part of a broader effort to make South Fulton’s parks and public spaces safer, more welcoming, and more accessible for residents of all ages.
