• City Of Atlanta To Honor Boxing Great Evander Holyfield

    2 Min Read

The City of Atlanta will honor hometown boxing champ Evander Holyfield with a ceremony and bronze statue, Mayor Kasim Reed announced late Monday.

Holyfield was crowned the cruiserweight and heavyweight champion in his nearly 30-year career inside the ring. Nicknamed “The Real Deal,” Holyfield is the world’s only four-time heavyweight title holder, gaining the belt the WBA, WBC, IBF boxing federations.

His most famous bout, without doubt, is his 1997 match with mercurial rival Mike Tyson. In that fight, Tyson infamously bit Holyfield’s ear in a savage episode that would ultimately put a dark cloud over Tyson’s career and the heyday of the sport.

Holyfield would go on to become a household name in America and crown prince of Atlanta. He would leave his mark on the area’s real estate with the purchase of a 44,000-square foot mansion in Fayetteville, Georgia just outside College Park.

The home, which features a 135-seat theater, 109 rooms, a 100-person dining room and a bowling alley, instantly became a tourist attraction as one of the most lavish homes on the East Coast and tops in the Southeastern United States.

In 2014, rapper Rick Ross purchased the home for $5.8 million in a foreclosure sale.

Today, the Holyfield name continues to be heard on the Atlanta-area airwaves as the boxing great’s son plays for the University of Georgia football team as a running back.

  • Marietta Restaurant Nominated For Best New Restaurant

    1 Min Read

A Cobb County eatery has made the list of Bon Appétit Magazine’s 50 best new restaurants in America. Up against the likes of a chicken Parm–slinging sandwich shop, Texas barbecue goodness, and a new-school Jewish deli — to name a few — a farm-to-table joint on the Marietta Square has managed to make a name for itself.

Spring, located at 83 Church St. in Marietta, is being called a top-notch farm-to-table eatery that delivers that downhome Southern-feel-good food with a modern sensibility. Run by Kennesaw native Brian So (formerly of Sobban in Decatur), the eatery offers a refreshing culinary experience amid a simple setting.

So, what’s a menu fave? Well, the hearty eaters at Bon Appétit had this to say: “House-made butter and sourdough bread; chicken liver paté on toast with blueberry jam, pickled mustard seed, and raw pistachio —basically an advanced PB&J — and whatever produce-driven small plates are in season. Oh, and a beer from the restaurant’s drink menu, which features Georgian brews almost exclusively.”

Winners were whittled down to 10 in August.

It’s been a few months now since the smell of fresh fried chicken has been flowing from The Battery Atlanta adjacent to the Braves new stadium.

Marc Taft’s Feed Fried Chicken + Such opened its doors in August to rave reviews.

The eatery, brought to us by Marc Taft, the chef and restaurateur behind Marietta’s Chicken and the Egg and Avalon’s Brine Seafood Shack, specializes in fried chicken and the best of Southern sides.

The fast-casual menu features chicken that is antibiotic- and hormone-free from Springer Mountain Farms, so you KNOW it’s fresh. Taft said that the eatery harkens back to his childhood and the good eating that accompanied it.

“Some of my favorite childhood memories revolve around the fried chicken meals at my grandmother’s house,” Taft said in a statement. “Our goal is to be a beloved family destination with the best locally sourced poultry at a great value.”

Houston’s Restaurant is an upscale American casual dining restaurant chain, owned by Hillstone Restaurant Group, whose main corporate headquarters is in Beverly Hills, California. There are 51 Hillstone locations in 13 states.

    2 Min Read

There may be a lot of eateries that come to mind in Atlanta when one is in the mood for biscuits but a new restaurant from the people that brought us Cracker Barrel is set to change things. Holler & Dash, a fast-casual biscuit house, opened this fall in West Midtown.

Holler & Dash is located in the hottest swatch of West Midtown at 1085 Howell Mill Road.

West Midtown is in the midst of an unprecedented surge in retail and commercial growth, powered by several new eateries. None of which exemplify the new energy and bustling spirit of one of the city’s most forgotten corridors than Holler & Dash right now.

The eatery is based around the idea that “the biscuit is the hero but the flavor possibilities are endless.” With that in mind, the menu is an inspired take on the Southern high life: thick sandwiches that spill over with meat, homecooked and locally sourced leafy vegetables and an ample beer and wine list.

The decor is a fusion of rustic flash with modern touches that mesh well with the vibe of West Midtown. If you’re up for a new take on the biscuit, holler and Holler & Dash!
