    With Mothers Day quickly approaching, WonderRoot is having an all-ages family painting class led by Meagan Jain of Ageless interAction.

    Ageless interAction uses visual arts to connect communities with elders 70+ to foster an interchange of love, respect and artistry.

    The event will especially highlight how art can create conversations, community, and connections around aging. At the end of the class, everyone will have their own handmade artwork.

  • Here’s How You Can Get Lunch Buffet at Sage Woodfire Tavern

    The recently opened Sage Woodfire Tavern In Buckhead wants you to experience the hearty meals, decadent drinks and succulent desserts that have made the new restaurant a hit.

    To show their appreciation the eatery located at 3379 Peachtree Road NE is throwing a grand opening celebration in which you can enjoy a complimentary buffet. It’s all going down Thursday, May 3, 2018.

    Woodfire Tavern has several locations in metro Atlanta, including the two most recent ones in Buckhead and Marietta. On Peachtree, the restaurant took over the place formerly occupied by Morton’s Steakhouse.

    The eatery is expecting 1,000 people to come through for the free buffet inside the $3 million restaurant. Owner James Liakakos is throwing the event, which is billed as a “Welcome Buckhead” Grand Opening celebration.

    A ribbon-cutting ceremony will also take place around noon with leaders from the Buckhead Business Association and community politicians in tow.
    Corporate Executive Chef, Michelle M. Matlock is in charge of the complimentary buffet, which will feature Oysters Rockefeller, Watermelon and Roquefort Salad, live action Pasta and Carving Stations, New Orleans Barbecue Shrimp and Grits, gourmet salads, magnificent ice carvings and an over-the-top dessert display.
    The restaurant will officially open for dinner service later that evening, at 4 p.m.

    One week after the Atlanta Film Festival wrapped, Atlanta is hosting the Nollywood Film Festival. From Wednesday, April 25 through April 28, fans of black film will gather in the city and network, attend screenings and pitch ideas.

    Metro Atlanta has several films and TV shows in productio, so it’s now wonder Nollywood would come calling for their event. Georgia is the No. 1 filmmaking state in the nation. And we’re not just talking independent projects. The major Hollywood studios, along with CBS and other networks, have hired local talent and crew to put together high-end productions.

     

    As for this week’s film festivities, actress Khalimah Gaston will host the kickoff event on Wednesday at Negril Village, which is located at 30 North Ave NE Atlanta.

    ​ Gaston is the creator of Screening Room ATL, which is a place to foster and help grow the indie film scene of Atlanta. She has events every Wednesday.

  • Food-O-Rama Hits Old Fourth Ward This Week

    Some of Atlanta’s top food vendors will be on hand this weekend for the city’s first major food truck event. Food-O-Rama will take place Sunday, April 29 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. in Old Fourth Ward Park.

    With spring in the air, come out to take in the aroma of fresh barbeque, fish tacos and all the pastries and other treats. The location adjacent to the BeltLine and across the street from Ponce City Market.

    There will also be arts and crafts and live music, and best of all there’s no cost of admission.

    The event will be a celebration of the city’s food truck industry, which has grown by leaps in bounds in recent years but still lacks the recognition and authority seen in some major cities.

    On Sunday, more than 30 vendors will sell a variety of foods of different portions, allowing attendees to sample and enjoy multiple delicacies.

    The star announced Monday the “Dirty Computer” tour in support of her new album. She also released the video for “I Like That,” a sultry inter-galactic ballad.

    Joining here on tour will be fellow Wondaland artists Alexe Belle and Isis Valentino, known together as the soulful duo St. Beauty.

    Monáe’s previous singles from the upcoming “Dirty Computer” album include Make Me Feel,” “Django Jane” and “PYNK,”

    The 27-city tour will be produced by Live Nation and start June 11 in Seattle, WA. From there it will go to Los AngelesDetroitNashvilleNew YorkAtlantaMiami and more before wrapping August 4 in Atlanta, GA.

    Tickets will go on sale to the general public beginning Wednesday, May 2 at LiveNation.com. Dirty Computer will be released this Friday, April 27th and is available for pre-order now.

    Google, National PTA Host Family Online Safety Workshop In Atlanta

    One of the world’s largest tech companies teamed up with the National Parent Teacher Association to help keep metro Atlanta families abreast of privacy safeguards available to them. Google invited parents and guardians to their local office for the an Atlanta Family Online Safety Workshop.

    The event took place Monday, April 23, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Google’s Midtown office at 10 10th Street NE.

    Atlanta has been chosen as the kickoff city of the pilot program, which will offer essential tips on online safety,  parent-centered online safety workshops led by National PTA and information on how to keep your data safe.

    Google also released the findings of its Atlanta Family Online Safety survey, which includes info culled from 1,000 Atlanta families on their online safety habits and perceptions. Here are some of the data:

    • 38% use a different password for each online account
    • 66% double-check the web address of links in email
    • 29% use two-step verification
    • 82% have spoken to their kids about the information they post online
    • 81% have spoken to their kids about online bullying or harassment
    • 78% have spoken to their kids about finding trustworthy information online

    Lucian Teo, Google’s User Education and Outreach Manager, along with Sean Arthurs, National PTA’s Senior Manager of Education Initiatives, were on hand along with area parents and guardians.

    “It has never been more important to understand the basics of online safety, and parents need a strong baseline of knowledge to teach their families how to protect their information online,” Teo said in a news release. “We’ve teamed up with National PTA to introduce our first Family Online Safety Workshop, bringing families together to share the knowledge they’ve gathered teaching their own kids to stay safe on the web.”

    “As parents, we want to help guide our children so they can navigate the world and make safe, smart, informed decisions,” Teo added.
