Film director Sasha Waters Freyer will introduce the film ACP Film Series Presents: “Garry Winogrand: All Things Are Photographable.” The event will be held Tuesday, October 9, 2018 from 7–9 PM at Landmark’s Midtown Art Cinema 931 Monroe Drive NE Suite C-212 Atlanta, GA 30308.
Artist. Iconoclast. Man of his time. Garry Winogrand was the epic photographer of 20th century American life. Decades before digital technology transformed how we make and see pictures, American photographer Garry Winogrand made hundreds of thousands of them with his 35mm Leica, creating an encyclopedic portrait of America from the late 1950s to the early 1980s. When he died suddenly at age 56 in 1984, Winogrand left behind more than 10,000 rolls of film – more than a quarter of a million pictures! These images, as well as hours of never before seen 8mm films, capture a bygone era.
Garry Winogrand: All Things are Photographable is the first cinematic survey of that legacy. The film tells the story of an artist whose rise and fall was — like America’s in the late decades of the 20th century — larger-than-life, full of contradictions, and totally unresolved. The film also uses newly discovered audio cassette tapes of private conversations between Winogrand and photographer Jay Maisel recorded in 1977.

Night of Impact, a fundraiser for Bright Futures Atlanta (BFA) is set to take place in the city on Thursday, Sept. 27 at 6:30 pm at The Fairmont in west Atlanta. The event will be sponsored by the Atlanta Small Business Network (ASBN).
This year’s event is themed Real Life Direction, which ties into the organization’s mission to provide support beyond the classroom for Bright Futures students as they graduate from the school and enter into adulthood.
BFA is a nonprofit organization that offers programs year-round and serves students in sixth through 12th grade. This same group of students attends the afterschool program and summer camp.
Located in west Atlanta, the organization focuses on providing educational, social and spiritual opportunities for the underserved youth of the city.
Executive Director Philip Ross emphasized how the event is important not to only introduce people to the organization’s mission, but to also kick off the giving season.
“This event is crucial to exposing people to the work of Bright Futures Atlanta and its year-round approach,” he said.
BFA was founded in 2002 with a vision to impact the underserved community of West Atlanta through a positive and sustainable support system, providing the means and motivation for youth to succeed in becoming self-sufficient, contributing adults.
For the past 18 years, Philip and Gail Ross have lived in the community and built deep relationships with youth and their families in West Atlanta, which includes Bankhead, Vine City, the Bluff and surrounding areas. They have developed a first-hand understanding of the challenges faced by the youth and have developed highly effective programming to help them overcome the barriers they face to achieve a successful life filled with meaning and purpose.
Tickets are $200 per person or $1,900 for a table of 10.
For more information, go to Bright Futures Atlanta online.
