• Dish Of The Week: Odd Bird’s Chicken Fried Steak

    2 Min Read

Yard bird is second nature in Atlanta. I mean, you can find fried chicken in all four corners of metro Atlanta, NW, SW, NE, SE. But delicious fried chicken? Now, that’s another matter.

The city has made a name for itself with boneless chicken (Chick-Fil-A), chicken with bones in it (everywhere else) and even baked chicken (Picadilly). But there’s one place that knows what it’s doing when it comes to fried chicken.

Odd Bird’s Chicken Fried Steak Available April 11

On the second Wednesday of each month, West Egg Cafe hosts a pop-up concept called Odd Bird and their Chicken Fried Steak, with white gravy, waffle, rosemary syrup, is the Southern dish you need in your life.

On Wednesday, April 11, from 5:30 to 9 p.m., the Odd Bird will have the yard bird on and poppin’.

Hot chicken is having a serious moment in Atlanta. What with the entry of Gus’ Hot Chicken and Richard’s in Krog Street Market, you’d think a live spicy bird swooped to the city and made its nest. But while those restaurants are all good, Odd Bird has a captivating allure about it that is hard to match, let alone put into words.

Odd Bird is located at 1100 Howell Mill Road, Atlanta, Ga. 30318.

See you Wed, April 11, 5:30-9pm, at .

  • Report: Fox Theatre’s Marquee Club To Open In May

    2 Min Read

The Marquee Club, the Fox Theatre’s premium space, is set to open in May, according to news reports.

The club is said to have immaculate decor with Moroccan-style lounges, a sweeping rooftop terrace and premium food and beverage. The club’s grand opening, which was first reported in The AJC, will include with member access on Thursday, May 17 and non-member access launching Saturday May 19.

When it was announced in 2016, Atlantans didn’t quite know what to make of the Marquee Club. Was it a nightclub? A holding space for celebrities and entertainers or what?

“When you think of the Fox Theatre, you immediately envision our legendary twinkling marquee. Standing the test of time, the Fox Theatre marquee is a beacon for patrons of the performing arts and a signifier of nearly a decade of memories,” Allan C. Vella, Fox Theatre president and CEO said at the time. “When we were brainstorming the name, we kept circling back to that one image that holds a special place in the heart of Atlantans – the marquee. Soon after, the Marquee Club became official.”

Guests will also get priority in ticketing options as well as other amenities connected to the $10 million renovation.

“We see the Marquee Club as an extension of the Fox Theatre. Most obviously, the footprint but also in guest experience,” said Adina Erwin, Fox Theatre vice president and COO. “Working with Lord Aeck Sargent, a local architectural firm specializing in conservation and preservation of historic venues, we have taken great pains to ensure patrons enjoy elevated service while their transition from the theatre to the club is seamless in both feel and design.”

  • Report: Atlanta Beltline Center Opening April 28

    2 Min Read

People who love to get out and about on Atlanta’s most famous pathway system will soon have a central hub to rest, gander at the crowds or just to chill at when the Atlanta Beltline Center opens later this month.

The center is set to open April 28 at the Stove Works office complex near Krog Street Market. The center’s Eastside Beltline Trail location promises an influx of people and people-watchers.

Speaking to Curbed Atlanta, ABP spokesman John Becker said the be a gathering place that educates the public on all things Beltline.

“There will be maps and other visuals, but much, much more,” Becker is quoted as saying. “The Center will be a place where people can learn about all aspects of the Atlanta Beltline project—as well as the Atlanta Beltline Partnership’s mission—through exhibits, interactive displays, and programming that highlight the project’s history, scope, and impact.”

Since even before its inception, the Beltline has been likened to a greatest municipal project in the nation and a shining example of community partnership and collaboration. Several areas of metro Atlanta are actively looking to imitate the pathway system, which aims to give people a safe space to jog, walk or enjoy their neighborhoods.

It’s a dog eat dog world out there, but in Atlanta, it’s a Lab’s world, as in Labrador Retriever! The breed once again took Atlanta’s top woof in the American Kennel Club’s (AKC) 2017 ranking of the most popular dog breeds in the country.

The Lab came in No. 1 in Buffalo and Nashville, underscoring just how popular the pups are. Rounding out the top five in Atlanta were bulldogs (of course).

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel was knocked out of the city’s top five, but joined the Yorkshire Terriers, Boxers and Rottweilers in the top 10.

“The Labrador Retriever held strongly to the number one spot in Atlanta,” AKC Executive Secretary Gina DiNardo said in a statement. “But the Bulldog is certainly pawing its way up the ranks, landing only one place behind its cousin, the French Bulldog.”
