The new Blade movie starring Mahershala Ali, Delroy Lindo and Mashaela Christina no longer appears on Marvel’s 2025 release calendar.

The development means that the popular character credited with saving the brand’s filmmaking business may not get remade at all. It’s also yet another production that was filming in Atlanta but will do so no longer.

Often-Delayed Blade No Longer on Marvel’s 2025 Slate

Few films on modern history have been plagued with the type of delays that have taken ahold of Blade.

Blade has faced multiple delays for several reasons:

Directorial Changes

The film has experienced changes in its direction, with different filmmakers being attached to the project over time. This often leads to re-evaluations of the script and overall vision.

Script Changes

There have been delays related to the script, particularly in ensuring that it meets the high standards expected for a Marvel film. The need for revisions can push back production schedules.

Casting Issues

Finding the right actors and solidifying cast contracts can also contribute to delays. Mahershala Ali, who plays Blade, has been enthusiastic about the character, but there may have been complications in coordinating schedules and negotiations.

COVID-19 Pandemic

The pandemic impacted many films in terms of production schedules, releases, and overall planning, leading to numerous projects being pushed back.

Phase Planning

Marvel Studios has a carefully planned slate of releases, and rearranging priorities to fit into their broader cinematic universe can result in delays for specific projects. These factors, among others, have contributed to the various postponements of the “Blade” movie.

What’s On Marvel’s Schedule for 2025?

As of now, Marvel Studios has announced several movies slated for release in 2025. The schedule includes:

  • Deadpool 3 – TBA 2025
  • Captain America: Brave New World- TBA 2025
  • Thunderbolts- TBA 2025

Release dates are often subject to change, and Marvel may add or adjust titles as the year progresses.
