Tired of paying for that Amazon Prime subscription? Now it’s time for them to pay you.
Millions of current and former Amazon Prime members have a narrow window to claim compensation as part of a historic $2.5 billion settlement with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). The deadline to file a claim is Monday, July 27, 2026.
Background of the Amazon Prime Claim Settlement
In September 2025, the FTC reached a $2.5 billion agreement with Amazon to resolve allegations that the company used deceptive practices to enroll consumers in Prime subscriptions and made cancellation unnecessarily difficult, in violation of the Restore Online Shoppers’ Confidence Act.
Amazon agreed to the settlement without admitting liability. Of the total amount:
- $1 billion serves as a civil penalty.
- $1.5 billion is designated for consumer refunds to affected Prime members.
The FTC estimated the practices impacted tens of millions of customers.
Who Is Eligible?
You may qualify if you are a U.S. consumer who:
- Signed up for Amazon Prime between June 23, 2019, and June 23, 2025.
- Either enrolled unintentionally through challenged enrollment methods or attempted to cancel Prime online during that period but encountered difficulties.
Eligibility also considers limited use of Prime benefits in some cases (e.g., using no more than a small number of benefits in a 12-month period). Many customers received automatic refunds in late 2025, but others must file a claim.
How Much Can You Receive?
Eligible claimants can receive a refund of Prime subscription fees paid, capped at $51 per person. The exact amount distributed may vary based on the total number of approved claims and other factors.
How to File a Claim
- Visit the official settlement website: www.subscriptionmembershipsettlement.com.
- Submit the online claim form with the required information.
- Claims must be filed by July 27, 2026.
Approved claims are expected to result in payments around September 2026. No proof of purchase is typically required, but accuracy in providing details is essential.
Important Notes
- This is a claims process for those who did not receive automatic payments.
- Beware of scams: Only use the official settlement site. The FTC and settlement administrators will not ask for sensitive information unsolicited.
- For more details or to check status, refer to the FTC’s Amazon Refunds page or the dedicated settlement website.
Time is running out—nearly 40 million customers could be eligible, but only timely claims will be processed. If you think you qualify, visit the site and file before the July 27 deadline.
